Getting a Medical check-up regularly is a foolproof way to stay one step ahead in leading a healthy and disease-free lifestyle. Kudos to you, if you have understood the numerous benefits of getting a health check-up and have made up your mind to get one.

However, there are a few dos and don’ts you need to be aware of before getting a health check-up. Most people, due to lack of awareness go to a check-up without being conscious of their daily activities. This in turn would provide incorrect test results.

In this article, we will provide you 10 useful tips, so that you can get a Full Body Health Check-up.

Successful Health Check-Up Tips:

1. Get a Good night’s sleep

Getting a good night’s sleep is very important for maintaining a healthy life. It is even more important before you get a health check-up as the amount of sleep may impact your blood pressure and heart rate. Due to this, the results can vary and even the doctor might have a tough time determining if there is any abnormality or not.

Try to get 7-8 hours of sound sleep, the night before you get your health check-up.

2. Avoid salty and fatty foods

Salty and fatty foods elevate your blood pressure and interfere with other assessments. Avoiding such foods before a check-up will also help the physician get an accurate picture of your health. So, it is recommended that you avoid such foods at least 24 hours prior. Also, remember to not eat anything 8-10 hours before the check-up.

3. Do not take caffeine or alcohol

Avoid caffeinated products before going to a health check-up and avoid drinking alcohol at least 24 hours prior, as it will affect some tests. The same applies to tobacco products as well. Do not smoke just before you get a blood pressure test.

4. Stay Hydrated

While you are not allowed to eat or drink anything at least 8 hours prior to your test, you are still allowed to drink water. Like any other day, staying well hydrated is very important. Being dehydrated during your testing can also give abnormal readings.

5. Do not exercise

Yes, that’s right. On any other day, we wouldn’t ask you not to work out. However, you must not exercise before attending a medical exam. Doing so would elevate your heart rate and decrease your potassium levels.

6. Know and disclose your medications

If you are under any sort of medication, it is important that you inform the examiner for them to make a note of it. Depending on the medicine and as suggested by your doctor, you may need to skip or postpone your medication until your check-up.

7. Time your check-ups based on your menstrual cycles

For females, avoid getting a health check-up during or soon after menstrual periods. The sample can get contaminated with traces of blood in tests like urine analysis. So, wait for at least 7 days after a menstrual cycle before getting a health check-up.

Also, if you are pregnant, make sure that you inform the examiner and get any X-ray tests canceled.

8. Bring along your medical history

If you are having any chronic illness or are having a health issue, disclose your medical reports to the examiner or doctor before or after the check-up.

9. Review your family health

It is also important that you divulge the recent medical conditions of your family such as diabetes, stroke, or cancer.

10. Schedule your check-up early in the morning

It is recommended that you schedule your health check-up early in the morning, as it will be easier for you to follow the above tips. It will also help in getting accurate test results if you schedule them closer to your wake up timing.
