What is a headache?
A Headache is pain or sensation in the region of the head, behind eyes or in the upper neck. A headache sometimes may cause heavy pain and sometimes it may be just a mild sensation. It may start suddenly and last for hours or sometimes even for days. A headache may occur frequently or occasionally.

Types of headaches and their Symptoms
There are different types of headaches. Most of us are familiar with uncomfortable and annoying pain headache causes but we are not aware that there are different types of it. Hence, let us look in it.
Tension Headache: This is the most common headache. However, the feeling of pain or discomfort caused by the tightness of muscles in head, scalp, and neck is a Tension headache. Certainly, a poor sitting or sleeping posture and stress are the main reasons for it.
- Pressure around the head
- Stiffness in neck and shoulder
Cluster Headache: Cluster Headache is short in duration but they are extremely painful. They occur in cyclic patterns and awakens you in the middle of your sleep.
- One-sided pain
- Swelling or redness in the eye on the affected side
- Stuffy or blockage in the nose on the affected side.
Post-traumatic Headache: A headache that is caused by trauma to head due to past incidents like accident or fall is called as a post-traumatic headache.

Migraine Headache: A headache with severe pain and nausea is considered as a migraine. It is an intense sensation that triggers with smell, sound, and light. Moreover, an individual who is suffering from a migraine headache may feel uncomfortable to perform daily activities.

Caffeine Headache: Never wondered how having caffeine can relief your headache? Just like it reduces headache, it also causes it. However, only the regular caffeine consumers may have this type of headache. To those who regularly take caffeine, it narrows the blood vessels that surround the brain. When you skip caffeine, the blood vessels come closer and causes a headache.
- Lack of concentration
Hormone Headache: This type of headache is commonly seen in women. The hormone fluctuations are the cause of this headache.
- Loss of appetite
- Joints pain
Sinus Headache: Sometimes allergic reactions in the sinuses causes a headache. Also, the pressure in the sinus due to stuffed mucus also causes a headache.
- A runny nose
- Swollen face
Hypertension Headache: When blood pressure rises high it causes a hypertension headache. It suggests an emergency doctor consultation.
Rebound Headache: Overuse of medication causes rebound headaches. The frequent use of painkillers causes this type of headaches.
- Relieves with painkillers but starts again when the medication wears off
When to talk to a doctor
It is always better to be safe than sorry. If you have frequent headaches or a severe headache seek for immediate doctor help. Even if you have a mild frequent attack it is a sign that you should consult a doctor. A doctor can diagnose and understand the type of headache you have. Also, the complexity of a headache can be understood only after an X-ray or CT and MRI scan.
